We are seeking a highly capable and motivated graduate for this exciting opportunity to undertake a Masters in Research (MRes). This is a collaborative project between the Hot House Research Team, School of Healthcare Sciences and Public Health Wales.
Technology is an ever-present future in modern life and there are growing concerns around it's encroachment into family life and parenting and the impact this may have on child development and behavior. On the one hand, there is social pressure on parents to respond immediately to calls and messages, potentially resulting in increased disruption between parents and children. Whilst on the other hand, there are functions on technology which parents might be opting to interact with more than children. While it is anticipated that technology will influence family interaction, very little research has been undertaken to explore the impact of parental use of technology of family life. To date, more research on the use and impact of new technology on public health has focused on children's technology usage.
This project will seek to explore Welsh school children's perceptions of their parents' use of technology. The project will be based in school settings and may involve a mixed-methods approach. The student will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
