Cardiff University School of Social Sciences is looking to recruit a Research Associate to contribute to research within the fields of industrial sociology and/or sociology of education. You will also contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.

The post involves working on the European Steel Skills Agenda project, which is funded by the European Commission as part of the Sector Skills Alliance Erasmus+ call.

The project aims to explore the direction of future technologies within the European steel industry and associated skills needs, as well as explore current skill needs, and to what extent such requirements are met by education and training systems. The post holder will research both company based training and vocational education and training provision to the industry. The outputs contribute to the development of a sector Blueprint to meet the industry’s future needs.

The applicant should meet the person specification and preferably possess expertise in the areas of industrial sociology and skills formation, particularly as it relates to vocational education and training systems.

The post will involve desk research and may include some overseas travel to conduct field work with steel companies and VET providers.

This is a fixed term post, that can either be undertaken on a full time basis (35 hours per week) for a period of 30 months OR on a part time basis (28 hours per week) for a period of 37 months.

Salary: £33,199 - £39,609 per annum, pro rata if on a part time basis (Grade 6)/
