Policy Bristol Reverse Question Time

11 Oct

Room G13/14, Life Sciences Building, 24 Tyndall Avenue, BS8 1TQ

A showcase of diverse and inspiring policy-relevant research from the University of Bristol - join the discussion (invite only).

This is the third in the series of highly successful QuestionTime events, bringing together Bristol academics and policymakers to showcase some of the fantastic, policy-relevant research here at the University of Bristol.  Speakers will give insights into their research, followed by a policy-focused Q&A with an invited panel including Thangam Debbonaire MP.  There will be opportunities for dialogue and relationship-building with our invited audience of academics and policymakers and refreshments will be provided.

This event has a theme of responsible innovation, aiming to explore through four diverse and wide-ranging talks what it means to have research and innovation that is socially desirable and undertaken in the public interest.   Confirmed speakers are:

  • Professor Daniela Schmidt whose research focuses on understanding the causes and effects of global warming and ocean acidification.  She is an author for the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
  • Professor Marcus Munafo has research interests including scientific reproducibility, and health behaviours and interventions (focusing on tobacco, alcohol use, and vaping).
  • Dr Genevieve Liveley’s research on ancient narratives and narrative theories is helping to inform defence, cybersecurity and risk policy.
  • Professor Anastasios Sextos who is an earthquake engineer whose latest project has been a comprehensive scheme to enhance the seismic safety and resilience of school buildings in Nepal.

This venue is accessible via a ramp and accessibility details are available via DisabledGo.
